TuTu Coconut Cake at Westgate preserves over 80 years of Singapore culinary heritage through Chinatown Tan's legendary tutu kueh tradition. Located at #B1-28/29, this authentic dessert stall represents the original creators of tutu kueh in Singapore, founded by Tan Yong Fa in the 1930s and now operated by his daughter Tan Bee Hua. The name "Tu Tu" derives from the distinctive sound of traditional charcoal-heated steamers, connecting modern customers with Singapore's rich hawker heritage.
Every tutu kueh is handcrafted and steamed fresh to order, featuring bite-sized portions filled with either sweetened coconut shavings mixed with gula melaka (palm sugar) or generous amounts of crushed peanuts. This traditional Singaporean snack, modified from Fujian's "sung kueh," offers an authentic taste of local culinary history at approximately .50 for a box of 5 freshly-steamed pieces. The careful preparation ensures each kueh maintains the perfect texture and authentic flavor that has made this dessert beloved for generations.
With Westgate's convenient location next to Jurong East MRT, food enthusiasts and heritage seekers can easily experience this iconic Singapore dessert that has gained recognition among both locals and expats. As part of the original tutu kueh legacy, this Westgate outlet continues the family tradition of bringing authentic, affordable, and nostalgic flavors to new generations of Singaporeans who appreciate the artistry and history behind every perfectly steamed kueh.
